We still need millions in the streets in addition to everything else.
I think it’s a given that the regime will overreact and hurt people. That needs to trigger even bigger demonstrations. It has happened this way in many other countries.
Eventually enough people are on the streets that everything shuts down until congress does their job (not out of kindness but to try to stay in power themselves). Or the secret service puts Fatty on a plane for Russia to live with Assad. Or the military makes clear they will not enforce martial law or other illegal orders and the regime blinks.
If millions of unarmed civilians are on the streets, police are nervous about using violence because their own family might be on the streets. Even cops have teenage children. It’s disorienting to meet force with love.
Come on, man. People have done mass protests in plenty of other places like Turkey, Egypt, etc. if they can do it we can do it. It’s time to buck up and have some courage. I won’t say they won’t menace us. Or cause harm. But you have to be willing to undergo some harm for something you believe in. That’s the point. And if they assault peaceful unarmed protestors that will look bad.
know the Palestine protests are a counter example—the massive marches they ignored, the tiny campus movements they viciously attacked and just defamed, and people basically believed them. But they’re not likely to be as heavy handed for any other issue, tbh.
100% support, but I think it would be wise to not either/ or, but adopt both. Not everyone has the wherewithal for direct action, but every protest keeps up the pressure and visibility of resistance. Every army needs infantry and special ops are easier to isolate and eliminate without them.
If people can protest in their thousands and hundreds of thousands in nations across the Middle East under threat of death or disappearance then coddled Americans can take their chances on the front lines, too. Ask a Palestinian or a Turk how to man up.
The one day protests are ineffective. We need the 70% of the country who did not vote for him to take to the streets everywhere. Non-stop General Strike and Boycott by millions everywhere will bring them to their knees. We outnumber them if we all do it. We must shut this country down if we want to save it.
This is a fight that must be fought on many fronts. I am in no way advocating violence. But I wonder, when people are discouraged from mass protests. There is power in numbers. Mass protests, along with civil disobedience ended segregation (but it didn't end racism). Mass protests helped to end the war in Vietnam. The biggest mass protest movement, The Black Lives Matter Protests, despite the fascists slandering it, did effect change. In fact that slandering is evidence of its effectiveness. There has to be a mass movement along with economic boycotts, peaceful civil disobedience and, as you suggest, small acts of resistance. When people wake up, when young people get their heads out of their smart phones, because this is their future being destroyed, it will be mass protests that will effect change. It doesn't matter that corporate media hardly covers smaller protests. They can't ignore mass protests if they are on a daily basis. Don't listen to people who discourage it. Of course everyone is afraid but when you give in to that fear they win. Get out there. Wake up. We will win.
I will keep showing up. Protests like the ones at Vermont ski areas thiss weekend keep people engaged. Also the optics at national parks carry a strong message. Agree that they will be riskier.
This sounds like project mayhem, from home

Mute. Block. What is this? Disinformation? Worm infestation? You read Bari Weiss' Free Press? Phony.

What a shit take right out of the gate. Never obey in advanced. Protest, protest, protest!

Prepare. Ask Europe if silence is the answer. You know their response.
The new world order is here. Ask yourself how far up the chain you will be?
The rich have you in a place that if you miss a day of work you risk loosing everything.
People have to be willing to sacrifice for one another, or you suffer the consequences together.
It’s the beaches of Normandy, and you wouldn’t have your life if nobody showed up then. Don’t be a No Show.
General strike
The violence you propose is not justified at this time. It is likely to set the quest to restore democratic freedoms back.
Sorry
I don’t propose any violence.
I would also like to note that direct action doesn't always have to be against people.
A minuteman can disable equipment. Tires can be slashed, cameras can be sprayed over and then destroyed by another mm.
These can increase the safety and flexibility of people focused actions.
This reminds me of the Be Water strategy that I wrote briefly about here: https://substack.com/@chrisburbridge/note/c-96794305
We can learn a lot from them.

Let’s hope cooler heads prevail it’s the excuse Trump is looking for to declared martial law and himself the only authority
